Shalakany Arbitration Moot (SAM) competition 2024

  • Post last modified:

For the 11th year in a row, Shalakany is proud to have held its annual Shalakany Arbitration Moot (SAM) competition at our offices in Zamalek, Cairo. This year’s competition was the largest SAM to date, with 7 teams participating from across Egypt, representing: Cairo University – English Section, Institut de Droit des Affaires Internationales – IDAI, Ain Shams University, Alexandria University, Tanta University, Al Azhar University, and Beni-Suef University and more than 30 arbitrators.

We would like to congratulate all students who have put in a lot of hard work throughout the year leading to one of the most competitive competitions in SAM’s history. In an exceptional outcome, this year, three teams tied for First place in the general rounds: Ain Shams University, Alexandria University and IDAI. As such, a championship round was held between all three teams to determine this year’s SAM champion.

After an intense championship round, the tribunal announced IDAI as SAM 2024 champion, which will be sponsored by Shalakany to participate in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition in Vienna or Hong Kong in 2025.

The memorial and oralist awards were presented as follows:
– Best Memorandum (Claimant): Institut de Droit des Affaires Internationales – IDAI;
– Best Memorandum (Respondent): Ain Shams University.
– Third Best Oralist: Abdelrahman Bedair – Ain Shams University
– Runner-Up Best Oralist: Adham Younes – Cairo University, English Section
– Best Oralist: Salma Gharraf – IDAI.

We extend our gratitude to all students and arbitrators who were able to be a part of another exceptional SAM competition.
