Shalakany is very pleased to announce that it was able to successfully secure a landmark win in environmental law litigation for its Client, one of the leading oil companies in Egypt.
The case concerned a member company of the Cooperative Union for Water and Fishery Resources against our Client, claiming compensation for moral and material damages for over EGP 774 million due to alleged pollution caused by an oil leakage accident in the sea.
Shalakany was able to successfully defend its Client before the competent national court which ultimately rejected the Plaintiff’s claim. The team who handled the case consists of Mr. Mahmoud Shedid (Senior Counsel), Mr. Nehad Tharwat (Counsel) and Mr. Ahmed Badawy (Counsel).
Mr. Mahmoud Shedid, Senior Counsel, said: “Environmental law is a growing litigation sector in Egypt and is growing in importance. We are happy to be leading the way when it comes to litigation.”
Mr. Nehad Tharwat, Counsel, commented: “Environmental law litigation is complex but we at Shalakany are used to complex and winning for our clients.”
